My great grandfather passed away when I was in high school. He wasn't all there during my childhood but the one subject he never forgot was his Race/Indy cars. He would tell me wild stories of testing out the cars by his garage on the Fox Point/Glendale border. I could see a man almost become giddy and childlike telling me how he would test drive them up and down Port Washington road when it was still just a dirt road surrounded mostly by farms. He is also a survivor of a very bad crash at the mile. To this day I have no idea how a man who had such a enormous part of his skull crushed lived. I have so many photos and heard so many stories. I think my heart would break if I can't show the mile to my little girl. There is so little preserved for the future as it is. It's important, it's history, it's my family. It was once Bill Schoof's playground. Please help save the Milwaukee Mile.

Amazing track with a lot of rich history. Truly a legendary track that should not die like it's friends like Ontario and Wilksboro
I really hope someone makes the decision to come here. I'd love to see NASCAR return the trucks and XFinity Series and maybe even bring the Sprint Cup into the mix and add another legendary tracks that drivers would love to win at.

December 23, 2015 | Milwaukee
So very sad that the Indy cars will no longer run at the Mile. It is highly unlikely it will ever return now. Indycar's schism & the continual jerking around of the date killed it. Michael Andretti tried really hard for three years, but it was clear that the effort was significantly less in 2015. A beautiful track that will slowly waste away with a nostalgia events. I think we may see an end to Indycar all together in the next 20 years, as the Speedway continues to mismanage the series.

I grew up in Milwaukee watching dirt track and races at the mile. I attended Jim Clark's first practice runs in his Lotus Ford and saw Jim Hurtibese, AJ Foyt, and Roger Ward duel it out nose to tail until Hurtibese major crash when Foyt car misfired and slowed on the front stretch. Please keep Indy cars running at the Mile.

The Mile has more history, more heritage, and more of a legacy than even Indianapolis itself. IndyCar, you would be making a huge mistake to abandon this this track. Please make racing at Milwaukee a reality again, or you will be losing some of your most dedicated fans.

Who in their right mind other than a non-racing fan would let go of an heirloom such as the Milwaukee Mile. Management, ownership, Milwaukee and the great state of Wisconsin need to put a focus on not just saving but enhancing the Milwaukee Mile!

The recently published, in time for IndyFest 2015, The Milwaukee Mile was written to tell the Track's long and historic story. I wanted people to understand why those who are passionate about it - want the track saved. From the days of Harness racing up through today, it's jam packed with drivers, track changes, everything that contributed to the great memories so many generations have tucked away. To "Save the Mile" is more than a slogan, it's a feeling, an emotion - we can't let it slip away.

It would be very out of order for the Milwaukee Mile to have to bite the dust. A track with endless history, it's not just another oval. It's the oldest auto racing track in the United States of America, and a unique one as well. The closing of this venue would remove a significant part of American history, and that is certainly not something that needs to be done. If the decision is made to close the race track, I can guarantee that the people in charge of the decision will regret doing so in the future.

Let's keep racing (Indy Cars) at the Milwaukee Mile. Milwaukee needs this. The world gets to see the race, track, and Milwaukee as a sports entertainment venue. It's great exposure for the entire area. We already lost the Circus Parade, the areas biggest attraction. Will we let racing at The Mile die too?

July 09, 2015 | Southern California
They are kidding right? Grew up around the Mile in West Allis since childhood, now live in southern Cal. That mile itself should be a historical landmark for Milwaukee giving its long history. That track has got to be one of the oldest racing venue's in the world. Many fond memories of Rodger Ward, AJ Foyt, Mario etc etc. and lets not to mention the local modified celebrities Miles Milieus, Fasbender, Burtzer pardon the bad spelling of the names. Respectfully,

This track is the heart of auto racing in Wisconsin, representing its rich heritage, no less than a museum. It deserves to be cherished and preserved. Also, the current facility is first-rate and the IndyCar race and event promotion has never been better. Let's support this!
July 07, 2015 | Mequon,WI

My family has attended races at the milwaukee mile for more than 80 years. It is very special to our family and was instrumental in launching my own racing career that lasted 16 years.
July 02, 2015 | Indianapolis, IN
Aside from the Indianapolis 500, this is the race I always look forward to. In terms of history and prestige in open wheel racing it is probably second only to the IMS. It is a racing institution. It is a right of passage for the USA's and the world's greatest drivers. I agree that the track needs to be sold to someone who understands this or management that understands this and knows how to market the race needs to be put in place. It should not be developed into just another set of condos, strip malls, or cheap suburban housing. There is enough of that already. There is only 1 of the oldest continually used race tracks in the world and that's the Mile. Honestly, it should be designated a historical landmark. It will be a sad chapter in racing history if the Milwaukee Mile is destroyed.

My family loves being a part of and watching racing at the mile. It's history and tradition running along side of action and great racing. Would be a shame to let it fade out.
June 22, 2015 | Reedsburg
In all fairness, guys, this is not the forum to take cheap shots at the Fair board. I have seen great success with other county owned fairgrounds speedways, when the fair board simply leases the operation to an outside party. I don't know how much consideration this has been given, Obviously Mr. Andretti has taken a shot at the Mile in some fashion to keep Indy cars coming, but who can jump into this role other than a Menard, Penske, Andretti...? He's out there, so please Fair Board, hold on until we find him. The tradition, the history, the ability to utilize this awesome facility is something we don't want to lose. To a kid from Wisconsin (the Midwest) making laps at Milwaukee is as close as we may get to Indy or Daytona. Sure was the highlight of my racing career.

It's time for the Fair Park Board to realize that they know absolutely NOTHING about racing!!! With proper promotion and multiple events (large and small) The Mile can be a huge asset for the next 110 years. Find someone who can run this track!!! It's not you Fair Park Board.
